ETINEX-0.25/0.5/1 (Etizolam 0.25/0.5/1 mg Tablets)
DESCRIPTION
ETINEX is a hypnotic and sedative, prescribed for anxiety, and sleep disorders. It is mainly prescribed to treat insomnia and anxiety disorders such as panic disorder or generalised anxiety disorder. Etizolam is a good medication for instant relief from panic attacks and anxiety, and can also be taken as a preventative in this respect.
DOSAGE
The usual dosage for etizolam is 0.25mg to 1mg up to three times a day. For insomnia, 0.5mg to 1mg is administered 30 minutes before retiring.
CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY
Etizolam is a thienodiazepine drug with anticonvulsant, hypnotic, and anxiolytic properties that is equipotent to Alprazolam. Chemically, it is closely related to the benzodiazepines and shares essentially all their risks and benefits.
Etizolam activates the same benzodiazepine receptor as other typical drugs of this class (such as diazepam). Therefore it binds to the GABAa receptors and potentiates GABA transmission and causes sedation of the central nervous system. This is what leads to its range of therapeutic and unwanted side effects. Since etizolam is a thienodiazepine benzodiazepine derivative its pharmacological profile is very similar to other benzodiazepines. It is absorbed quickly and its peak concentration in the blood-plasma occurs in between 30 minutes and 2 hours. It has an active metabolite called alpha-hydroxyetizolam which is eliminated more slowly and has a longer half-life than its parent drug of about 8 hours.
Its pharmacological profile and the effects of the drug have been found to be similar to diazepam.
INDICATIONS
Etizolam is mainly indicated and prescribed for anxiety, sleep disorders, insomnia, etc.
CONTRA INDICATIONS
Etizolam is contraindicated in patients with increased eye pressure, coma, severe liver impairment, porphyria, severe lung disease, and hypersensitivity.
PRECAUTIONS
There are many precautions to be considered when taking etizolam. Like benzodiazepines, etizolam possesses very strong sedative effects and effects ones judgement and also lowers ones inhibitions. People who start taking etizolam should avoid driving or other dangerous activities involving heavy machinery until they have learned how the drug effects them. It should most certainly not be used during pregnancy due to the risk of the drug passing into the breast milk. For similar reasons, it should not be used during pregnancy or when attempting to become pregnant without medical supervision from a doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS
Some side effects could be drowsiness, weakness or lethargy.
