NEXFLU-20 (Fluoxetine HCl. 20 mg Capsules)

DESCRIPTION

Fluoxetine is potent antidepressant with non sedating properties. The antidepressant action of Fluoxetine is presumed to be linked to its inhibition of C.N.S. neuronal uptake of serotin.

DOSAGE

Initially 20 mg once a day in the morning followed by range of 20-80 mg per day.

CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY

Fluoxetine has negligible binding to muscarinic, histaminergic and alpha1-adrenergic receptors in comparison to tricyclic agents. The oral absorption of the drug is around 95%.

INDICATIONS

All types of depression, especially where no sedation is required. It is also useful in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Anxiety Neurosis.

CONTRA INDICATIONS

Hypersensitivity, Severe renal failure and nursing mothers.

PRECAUTIONS

At least 14 days gap between discontinuation of MAO inhibitor & initiation of Fluoxetine. It is not recommended to Pediatrics.

SIDE EFFECTS

Anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, drowsiness, fatigue or lethargy; tremor, sweating. G.I. complaints like anorexia, nausea, diarrhea and light headedness.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Tryptophan may produce agitation, restlessness and gastric distress. Increased sedative effects on the CNS. Fluoxetine reduces the breakdown of tricyclic antidepressants, change in serum lithium level.

NEXFLU is available in strips  of  ten capsules containing Fluoxetine HCl. USP 20 mg.
