Job Description

The Burnham Park Yacht Club is situated on the Museum Campus on Chicago’s Lakefront. We are located on Northerly Island which forms the Eastern Shore of Burnham Harbor. Our Club house provides views facing the harbor offering magnificent views of the harbor activity as well as a panoramic scope of Chicago’s skyline. It is said to be the most exquisite view of Chicago.

The General Manager is responsible for the overall financial health, member experience, vendor service, facility maintenance, team development and team morale.

In addition to their primary responsibilities, it is the General Manager’s job to build a win/win partnership with our vendors and team members, create and execute a development plan for each of the members of the staff, and ensure our members receive nothing but exceptional service.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/FUNCTIONS/TASKS:

  • Promotes, works, and acts in a manner consistent with the mission, vision and values of BPYC.
  • Reviews financial statements, sales reports, KPI Dashboards versus budgeted and forecasted goals to identify areas needing cost reduction or program improvement.
  • Directs and coordinate operations, service, restaurant environment, cleanliness standards, manager development, food safety and local marketing initiatives.
  • Vets and approvers staff work schedules, and audit hourly team member schedules to ensure coverage for meal periods.
  • Coordinates financial budget forecasting on a yearly, quarterly and per period basis.
  • Oversees the use of weekly and period declining budgets for all controllable expense categories.
  • Oversees the hiring, disciplinary and termination process and documentation for all personnel.
  • Ensures the bar is operated and managed in a professional and profitable manner while maintaining the highest level of member service.
  • Provides leadership and coaching to manager in the areas of member service, recruiting, hiring, training, coaching and mentoring employees to achieve goals.
  • Communicates and proposes solutions for gaps in operational processes, training, member service, and vendor management to Commodore. 
  • Builds win-win partnership with vendor partners.
  • Reports to board on weekly and monthly basis regarding all facets of the club’s operations and finances.
  • Trains and implements all new operations and procedural changes as it pertains to improving policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the highest level of cleanliness and sanitation is maintained in the club.
  • Facilitates open discussions and communication with team members, club members and vendor partners to improve organizational efficiencies and practices.
  • Builds and execute a plan to make BPYC a part of the community by supporting boating community endeavors.
  • Develops a culture of team work, empowerment, service, and fun by ensuring all team members know why their job is important.
  • Leads by example.
  • All other duties as needed.
